Saturday
My wife has started a pot of coffee and my cup of tea is being zapped in the microwave oven, we're going to sit at the table and slowly get this day started. We have plenty of cups and can make coffee as needed, join us, it's going to be a fine day. I've been out on the back deck and looked at the sky, stars still glitter as the wispy clouds flow across the dawning horizon. An airplane blinking on and off has gone right to left and quickly disappeared from sight. Birds were still sleeping but now I hear one trying to welcome the new day. The smell of coffee is filling the house, the beep on the microwave tells me water is hot, toaster pops and the pop tarts stick over the top. Coffee is poured, tea bag put in cup of hot water, pop tart quickly tossed on plate, we settle at table and Saturday begins.

Nesting Box
Nesting Box
Standing silent, this early winter day
Anchored in old mud and green water
Protected by a bent and weathered skirt
The nesting box still stands
Lichen clings to the cypress
Pitted and grooved in the grain
Worn and wearied by wind and rain
The nesting box still stands
The water mirrors decay
Reflecting years of use
Bleached by sun and snow
The nesting box still stands
