On the Beach Vacation Week

We had a great vacation in the city of Savannah GA, ate lots of food and saw all the city sights. AND went to the beach on Tybee Island!!!!  That was the coolest part, sitting on the beach and watching the waves crash onto the shore. A couple of days the wind blew hard and we didn't even open the umbrella, just soaked up the sun. The last day was just a picture perfect day [sorry we took no pictures]. Light breeze blowing and not to hot!

View from the beach chair-through the squinted eyes of  a mountain man disguised as a tourist.

Shrimp boats catching shrimp, their nets spread out on either side of the boat. A couple of big, very big container ships entering the Savannah river, and a couple heading out to sea.

An airplane flying over head pulling a banner saying buy Geico Insurance.

A young man flying a kite, way up high in the sky while he is chasing his young daughter and trying to keep her
           out of the water
.
Little boys, two or three years old, running  their chubby little legs into the white breakers and screaming with
joy and terror when the salt water soaks their shorts. Fleeing to the shelter of umbrellas and body
saving towels, only to turn around and do it again!

Fat tires on old people bikes, ridden by old people who sway to the left and then to the right. The tracks in
the sand look like drunken snakes searching for shade on a sunny beach.

Middle aged men with bellies hanging over trunks that won't stay pulled up, and middle aged women hiding
under swim skirts and baggy shirts.

Old men who don't care any more, wander by scratching where it itches and wearing pork pie hats over long
turkey necks and gray haired chests. Long black socks and sandals protect from the hot sand and
          sharp sea shells.

Old women wearing big floppy hats made of straw and linen search the shore for the perfect shells to add
to their collection. Chattering like seagulls scolding me for not feeding them more grapes.

Young people in various stages of dress and undress stroll by with out a care in the world, except to be part
of a group- be the same, but be different. Playing catch with a football, a baseball, and even a Frisbee
flying by. Oh! to be young and carefree!

That's what I saw, every day the same, just different people!  I struggle out of my chair and walk down the beach. Bare foot, belly hanging over trunks, no hat, no shirt, scratching where it itches, swaying to the left and then to the right. Really "Don't get no better then this!"

On the land or on the lake,

          Turtle
